Day 3
We are on the golden road to the wild west. The weather has been fabulous and even though there is road construction everywhere, we only hit heavy traffic once. Betsy is a true motorcyclist, riding all of Illinois and almost all of Iowa, another 500 mile day (These "I" states are huge!). The countryside along I-80 is beautiful. Rolling hills of farmland, over the Mississippi River on to the Missouri River. At one point (100 miles east of Council Bluffs the land has enourmous wrinkles in it around 10 miles apart. You ride to the top of onewrinkle and can see the next in the distance, but it's so far away that the cars cresting it are only little dots. You always know when it's going to be windy because you can see the tips of the giagantic wind mills a few miles before you catch up to them. There are hundreds of them and we really got the perspective of just how big the blades are because they were trucking them down the highway today. They're too long for a trailer so they clamp wheels to them in three places! It' like passing 3 or 4 18 wheelers. We had sunshine and hawks overhead the whole way. What a day! We are staying in Onawa Iowa tonight (not exactly a tourist attraction) but the room is cleanish and we needed to stop. We are just south of Sioux City, approximately 470 miles from our destination. We might actually get there tomorrow! 2,000 miles in 4 days not bad. (Pics later).
